Decorated in Big Walnut and t-shirts from fire houses all over the country, the décor at Firehouse Tavern is authentic and on-point.

Opened by Columbus first fighters, the décor at Firehouse Tavern on the square in Sunbury, Ohio, is simple to figure out.

Nearly every inch of wall and ceiling is covered by a collection of T-shirts from fire departments all over the nation.

Cool decor helps to bring people in but without good food they don’t come back. And Firehouse Tavern has been around long enough to build its own reputation.

Wings with Back Draft sauce and fries at Firehouse Tavern in Sunbury, Ohio.

On a recent day, I stopped in and had wings and fries. The wings were solid with “back draft” sauce which my server described as a mix of all the other sauces. It was sweet but the “spicy” never appeared for me.
