When you talk about dining in Delaware, Ohio, there is the “leader” among the restaurant scene.

That is usually 1808 American Bistro on East William Street across from the Strand Restaurant. While you can argue if 1808 is the best downtown restaurant you can’t argue it place as the anchor in the new restaurant explosion downtown.
Founded in 2008, the restaurant had to withstand the recession catering to a different clientele than the typical quick-serve restaurants downtown. But they didn’t only survive, but the innovative menu and creative drink concoctions made 1808 a destination.
Fast forward twelve years, and executive chef Josh Dalton is also working with his high-end take on food at Veritas in Columbus and Speck just a few doors down from 1808 in historic downtown Delaware.
As Dalton’s interests expanded the food and quality at 1808 has not suffered.
The menu intentionally is left small and offers locally sourced items when available. Prices range from $13 for a grilled cheese to $40 for the cowgirl steak. With most ranging in the $25-32 range.
The wine and cocktail menu is extensive and offers a wide selection of tastes. Go early for a $1 off your glass of wine, 1/2 off beer, and $2 well drinks during happy hour.

Reservations are accepted and were suggested before the pandemic and now they are essentially required.
