For stop number 117 we head just northeast of town to Kilbourne Market in the quiet town of Kilbourne, Ohio.
The Market is a key component of the “Kilbourne Project” which was an attempt to revive this dying community of 139 people. Moving around town you’ll see lots of rehab going on with the community’s old buildings. It is a very exciting time.
The Market was formerly Cee Dee Pizza and while the pie might not be quite as good, I think the subs are much improved with my favorite being the Italian ($5.75 half/$9.50 whole). However, the overall experience is off the charts improved. Gone is the scary back room with half-full coolers replaced with a beautiful bar and lots of room to enjoy a meal. I have taken my little girl into the pub.
A favorite event is the Kilbourne Farmer’s Market which debuted in 2020 and included some of our favorite local community groups including Covey Rise Farms and Redde Hedde Farms. No mention on the Web site if it will return in 2021, but we will be crossing our fingers!
Kilbourne Market is located at 5621 State Route 521 in rural Delaware, Ohio. The Market’s summer hours – effective Friday – are Sunday Noon – 9 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday 4 – 9 p.m.; Friday 3 – 9:30 p.m.; and Saturday Noon until 9:30 p.m. The bar, patio and restaurant is closed on Monday and Tuesday.
