Every town that was once Mayberry has an old-school hardware store. Sadly as development has grown and the “mega-stores” took over these hardware stores have become icons. There are maybe a handful left in Central Ohio, including The Hardware Exchange in historic Delaware, Ohio.
Stepping into the Hardware Exchange is like walking back into 1930s Delaware, Ohio. Every inch of space is filled with something that you’ll need at some point … even if you have no idea what it is. Head downstairs or upstairs to find some very curious items that might even date back to the store’s founding in 1934.
Among my favorite things about the store is that they actually cut new keys for you, not sending you to some kiosk. Also, they do amazing job at screen repair for a very reasonable cost.
According to its Web site, Hardware Exchange also specializes in:
- Home Repair
- Window and Screen Repair
- Garden Tool Repair
- Key and Glass Cutting
- Pipe Cutting and Threading
- Automotive and Household Cleaning Products
- Electrical and Plumbing Materials
- PPG Paint
- Power Tools . . . and so much more!
The Hardware Exchange is located at 141 South Sandusky Street – next door to Ohio Wesleyan University – in downtown Delaware, Ohio. The store is open Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Saturday 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sunday.
